Jaden Lander and the Rotek Racing team were at Barber Motorsports Park this past weekend for the second to last race of the GT4 calendar. Lander and teammate Robb Holland are in a tight championship battle that will come down to the season’s final race.
The team had one good practice session going into the weekend, and they were confident in the car setup. The team did not go out for the second practice, as it was affected by a spot of rain, which was the only bad weather all weekend.
Lander and Holland showed why they are on a three-race win streak in qualifying, with both drivers putting the No. 99 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 on pole.
Race one started with Holland in the driver’s seat. He put together a good stint and handed the car over to Lander in second position. The team lost another position in the pit lane, but Lander was able to track down the car ahead and take the position back. Lander began chasing the lead car but ultimately ran out of time and crossed the finish line in second.
Unfortunately, the weekend’s second race didn’t go as planned for Lander or the team. Lander was involved in a crash three-quarters of the way through the first lap. An incident in front of him left him nowhere to go to avoid the collision which resulted in the car needing to be retired.
With only one race weekend remaining, Lander and the team are only three points back of the AM Class championship. The team will look to capture the championship at Indianapolis Motor Speedway from October 3rd to 6th.
“Besides Sunday, this was a great weekend overall. We had amazing pace and great strategy, but not the results to show. Leaving Barber, we have a three-point deficit going into the year’s final round at Indy. We will give it one more big push to bring home the chip! Big thank you to Porsche for making a strong car to keep me safe and to the Rotek boys and girls who now have their work cut out for them before Indy.”
